2019 is almost finished, Christmas day is a week away and my gifts are shipped, my customers have their (intended for Christmas) quilts back and I'm plunking my way through all of the quilts that were patient and generous with their time until after the holiday rush was through. Thank you so much everyone that said 'mine can wait', I appreciate it so much. After all these years quilting for others, it is still a major last minute rush time of year! I'm fortunate to have wonderful quilters that understand and allow me to help others meet their goals as well.
I made some changes to the website/store for the coming year, I didn't really have too many transactions that required the store component, so the practical/frugal thing to do was to drop that part of it and continue on in other ways.

So who has scraps? I do. I have been saving scraps for so long it seems. I originally had two bulk food bins with lids from the grocery store, one for lights, the other for not lights. I made a Queen Bedspread quilt by just sewing a chunk on and making a straight edge, sewing on another chunk and sew on..... everyone loved it but I didn't seem to be emptying the scrap bin. The most effective way to get rid of scraps was to just give them to someone else! Shirley used to take a bunch and come back with a quilt in a few weeks.... she was good at it.
Now that I don't have ready access to someone taking my scraps (I would have to pack them up and take them to someone), my bins are full. So are a few bags and a box or two. I have made a few quilts out of my scrap bins, On Ringo Lake by Bonnie Hunter, and The Gypsy Wife by Jen Kingwell. I also was able to coax my retreat ladies into making the scraps into a quilt top for our Guild's Community Quilt progr...
So, September is always a busy month. This year is no exception! I have been trying to get caught up on Quilts after working 16 extra weeks this summer... and get ready for my retreat this weekend and the Nelson Quilt Show next weekend! I'll be bringing things from Poppins Quilt Parlour to the show, so if there's something you'd like me to bring along, just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll make sure it gets packed!
Have you seen my Debra Quilts Lots Facebook page recently? I post pictures of all of the quilts I have quilted once they've been received by their owners,,,, check it out, there's a huge variety of patterns, fabrics and techniques on there.... the biggest reason I LOVE quilting for others (the hugs are pretty good too).
Hey! I'm home today and I've spent my morning putting together the latest episode of Debra Quilts Lots and Knits Bits where I share my quilting and knitting adventures..... so grab a beverage and your knitting or listen along as you create in the sewing room....
Almost ready to to go to Fibrefeelia Fest this weekend!!!! I have a bagful of things to drop off in Grand Forks, another batch of deliveries that are going to be picked up in New Denver and a whole other gaggle of things to take to Castlegar for Monday morning!
I still have room for stuff to go if you're in need of anything!
There is still time to sign up for classes at FibreFeelia too..... it would be awesome to see you!
It's early in the day, so I'm going to go and finish up some custom Project Bag orders and do a little quilting before I head off to Poppins for the rest of the day. See you all soon!
A few years ago, I could manage/ juggle just fine. So, when I committed to fill in at Poppins while one of the girls needed 4-6 weeks off, I told myself I could work at the quilt shop all day and come home and quilt in the evening.... and I was able to-for the first month. Now that my play time has been extended at the shop, I seem to be ‘pacing myself’ and my home productivity has lost some steam. So I’m a few weeks behind where I wanted to be with customer quilts. They are getting done and I’m waiting for a few to be picked up so I can share their pictures. Thank you to all of my incredibly patient Quilters,I just need a 2pm latte to replace my nap and I’ll be caught up soon!
In March, the Vlog/Podcast had a giveaway..... at the very end of the video, I asked you to leave a comment about what you were working on. Shirley was the sole commentee, working on her Butterfly shawl! Thank you for participating Shirley! You get to chose a Sock Size Project bag! Please email your choice and I'll get it out to you!
Yesterday morning, I was able to film Episode 5, so please enjoy! If you haven't subscribed to my channel on YouTube, please do. I need 3 more subscribers to impress my daughter! I may seem a little rambly, but I decided to try to get the whole video done without editing.... I even had notes this time!
We took a drive through Orchards in bloom Friday afternoon to arrive at Heart n Sole on Grand Forks for a wonderful visit with Cathy and Rod. Then off to the school to set up our booth. Barb and I split a booth, I took some project bags and patterns and Barb had a sampling of things from Poppins. After a dinner visit, we stayed at a quilter’s home. She’s all set up for small retreats and we stayed up late visiting with Delilah and Joanne from Cottage Treasures. On Saturday, we were treated to an amazing presentation, lots of hugs and visits from old friends. Kathy from Fruitvale brought her One Block Wonder from our class!
We got to see some amazing quilts, buy ourselves some treats and then it was time to come home! I was able to deliver a quilt and pick up another....
Today, I went out to the Modern Guild Sew Day to give a little demo but I was too tired to stay and sew... I wanted to, but my old body said no so I came home and had a little nap! Looks like they had tons of fun...
Mid month already and things are rockin’ ! I’ve been filling in at the quilt shop all month and coming home full of inspiration every day! Friday I carried a bagful of new fabrics home for project bags and managed to quilt some quilts and some bags too!
I love every new fabric that comes into the shop and I’m finding panels all over the store! It’s more fun than work, really!
We are headed to Grand Forks April 27 th for the Western Kootenay Quilt Conference, I’ll be bringing my bags, and a selection of things from Poppins, so if you need anything specific, contact the store. Email is email@example.com or call us at 250-493-1815.
I’d also be thrilled to pick up your quilts to quilt, so bring them along too!
